HVAC System Design Engineer


Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled engineer to join our New Product Development (NPD) team, focusing on the design, development, and implementation of residential and commercial HVAC products. This role will ensure that products achieve or exceed industry-leading performance and reliability standards across various platforms and product families while also providing manufacturing support for existing products.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead NPD projects and ongoing sustaining initiatives.
  • Oversee individual projects through the complete product development lifecycle.
  • Design, optimize, and validate HVAC systems using advanced analytical and experimental techniques.
  • Manage product qualification and regulatory compliance testing programs.
  • Perform analytical studies using state-of-the-art simulation tools.
  • Ensure design quality through rigorous calculations and validated proposals.
  • Provide technical expertise to manufacturing, sales & marketing, quality, and supply chain teams.
  • Collaborate with vendors, customers, and field personnel.
  • Deliver technical and business presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Document product designs, including bills of materials, drawings, and product change notifications.
  • Interface with regulatory bodies and testing agencies.

 

Education and Experience

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience:
    • At least 10 years of design and project management experience, with the release of two or more product families preferred.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficient with simulation tools and programming languages.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC system design, including component integration and interaction.
  • Expertise in New Product Development (NPD) processes, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
  • Strong foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and heat exchanger design.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment, test stands, and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of air management, aeroacoustics, structural analysis, and manufacturing methods in the HVAC&R industry.
  • Experience with system controls, operations sequences, and electrical wiring methods.
  • Proficiency in data acquisition, advanced experimental techniques, instrumentation, calibration, and Design of Experiments (DoE).
  • Familiarity with regulatory committees and applications at both equipment and system levels.

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Certification: EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Certification (Universal) is a plus.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Advanced understanding of experimental techniques, measurement systems, and uncertainty analysis.
    • Familiarity with HVAC manufacturing methods and industrial practices (preferred but not mandatory).
